Appello

Trish Appello is a Filmmaker from Long Island, New York. She started her Independent filmmaking career in her mid-fifties by working on Film Sets & Film Festivals. Her hard work has garnered her much respect in the Long Island Independent Film Community. She has served as coordinator for the Long Island International Film Expo, as a Board Member and Secretary for the Long Island Film/TV Foundation, and served as Producer on the short "Couple of Guys" and as Associate Producer on the feature "Honor Amongst Men." She voiced the lead in the very funny adult animated series "Ditmars." She loves being in front of the camera as much as working behind the scenes. Trish recently graduated from UCLA Extension, receiving a Certificate in Independent Film Producing. She proudly served as Associate Producer on the WEDU/PBS Documentary "The Sarasota Experience." Next up for Trish is Executive Producing her creation, the Hybrid comedic docuseries "The EffYou 50s". By combining parody and docu-style storytelling, Trish smashes society's perception that women over 50 are past their prime.

I created The EffYou 50s because as I began to age and find pesky gray hairs, I also discovered that I had found my voice. Going through menopause, I experienced a transformative journey, as many often do. This led me to coin the phrase, “The EffYou 50s,” to push back against the societal norms of aging women. I realized very quickly that I was far from alone. I had the power to share my message with the world, and I started by giving myself a Real Housewives-esque tagline, “I can thrive at 55." As I began my foray into the independent film industry, I discovered my professional, artistic, and collaborative passion. With my children now grown, it was finally mommy's turn.

I went back to school at 59 and studied at UCLA-Extension for my Independent Film Producing Certificate. I worked on both studio and indie sets, immersing myself in my newfound passion of independent filmmaking.

When writing this project, I had my daughter, my nieces, and all the young women in my life in mind. I do not want them to wait until 50 to find their voice. However, this film is also for my son, my husband and all the males in my life. As people, we can define our own prime, especially us gals. We heavily depend on others in our life to understand and respect our path to self-learning and healing.
This is a pro-women short film, but not an anti-anybody film. I want the viewers to think of the women in their lives: mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and friends, and be able to understand the struggles that comes with aging.

With that, I am very proud to say that I created my first piece of original art at 62 years young. "I have always been a late bloomer, but I always bloom."
